Cultural Activities in Göttingen

Besides the German language courses our school offers a wide range of leisure time activities. During the summer courses we have at least 3 activities per week and all of them are free of charge. Even travel costs and entry fees are included in the course fee. Also in the rest of the year there are several activities per month which are included in the course fee.

We organize activities that are both, fun and helpful to the understanding of the German culture and people, meaning that you will get a deeper insight into the German way of life and German traditions.

The cultural and leisure programme will create unforgettable memories and will help you to reinforce what you have learned in the language course.

Here are just some examples:

• Town «scavenger hunt» with prizes for the winners
• Guided tours
• Beer seminar
• Pub crawl
• Rowing on the lake «Kiessee»
• Sports (e.g. volleyball, swimming, football, miniature golf, bowling or snooker)
• A visit to a concert, the theatre or to the cinema
• Video films dedicated to German directors, actors or German history
• Photo Safari through Göttingen
• Bike tour
• Half day excursion to an old castle
• Visit to a museum or the botanic garden

All these activities are structured and guided by a teacher.

Excursions

For your free days at the weekend the railway station isn't far away. And with Göttingen being located right in the heart of Germany, most of its major cities are but a day trip away.

Accommodation Options in Göttingen

We help students to find accommodation where they will meet open minded people and where they get a close insight into typical, everyday life. We know that the accommodation is an essential part of your stay in Göttingen, therefore we pay special attention to its selection and the feedback from students.

All of the rooms that are offered have been selected carefully and have undergone an inspection by our staff. The variety of rooms reflects the different types of living in Germany. Wherever you stay, you will have a clean, comfortable room of your own, plus shared use of bathrooms and communal rooms. We offer:

Host family

You will find our host families open, friendly and keen to help. We cannot promise to find you a «typical German family», for the simple reason that there is no such thing! However, you can be certain that your host family will be very different from your own family back home, and they will definitely give a warm welcome to the new member of their household. Discovering all the differences for yourself is one of the most enjoyable parts of staying abroad. You'll encounter lots of new things, in both the personal and cultural spheres.

Private room

You will stay with an individual or a family who will provide you with a typical german breakfast. This form of living is comparable with the English «Bed and Breakfast».

Shared flats

Lots of German students live in flatshares, with two or more people sharing an apartment or house. Each student has his or her own room while the lounge, kitchen and bathroom are communal. You will either occupy a spare bedroom or the room of a student who is on vacation during your course. You'll also be living with German adults of around your age, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to practice your language skills and learn about life in Germany in general.

Student housing

In student housing you will be staying in a single room that belongs to a student of the University of Göttingen who is on vacation. You will be living on the same floor with about 10 other students, with whom you will share the communal rooms, the kitchen and the bathroom.

Apartments

You will have an apartment of your own with your own private kitchen and bathroom.
