Italian Courses in Venice (6)
Cultural Activities in Venice
Learning a language is much more than being familiar with its grammar rules: it also entails learning in-depth about the culture it represents. The Istituto Venezia offers you the possibility to improve your knowledge of Italian culture thanks to social activities organized in Venice.
At school
Thanks to the afternoon activities at school you can improve your language skills: there are grammar workshops, thematic lectures, discussions on films, literature or on italian songs.
The program is updated weekly in order to offer you a wide variety of choices. All activities are free. Only in some cases students pay for entrance tickets or transport.
Around the city
Thanks to the experience of our assistants we organise afternoon excursions and walking tours that allow you to expand your knowledge about Venetian history, art, traditions and daily life.
These are some examples of our activities:
- Artistic itinerary: museums and art exhibitions.
- Itinerary about the local handcraft: visit to the glass and mask workshops and the squeri (where the gondolas are made).
- Historic itinerary: walks around the historical areas of the city.
- Gastronomic itinerary: walks around Rialto market (one of the greatest markets in the world), visit to local bacari and trattorie, wine and food tasting, cooking lessons.
Open air activities
You can discover the city also by doing sport activities: trekking in the islands of the lagoon, trips by bicycle in Venice Lido, jogging along the canals, and in addition the possibility of becoming members of the CUS (University Sport Centre).
Visiting the surroundings
Venice is not the only destination of our trips, we also organise one-day excursions to some of the most interesting cities near Venice, such as Padua, Treviso, Verona, Ferrara, Riviera del Brenta Villas in order for you to enjoy the beautiful landscape around Venice and to explore the historical cities in the region.
Accommodation Options in Venice
We think that accommodation is a very important part of your study trip in Italy. This is why we attach a lot of importance to its quality and try to live up to your expectations with a wide variety of offers. Here you can find some useful information on the different types of accommodation offered by our language school.
Host family
It is ideal if you would like to be fully immersed in a different language and you want to live a culturally enriching experience. You can stay with local residents in a single room with the kitchen at your disposal. Usually, the host families are couples without children or single people. To stay with an Italian family is the best way to enjoy our daily life and improve your language skills.
Shared flat with other students
The opportunity to stay in a single room in a flat with other students who attend the school is a good chance to meet people from all over the world. The ideal solution if you'd like to live in an international atmosphere.
University Residence
This is our best option! Giudecca is the picturesque island in front of the Zattere; a waterbus service links continuously the island to the historical centre and so it can be reached easily from Piazzale Roma and the railway station. In Giudecca you will find some of the artistic masterpieces of Venice, such as the Redentore church and the Molino Stucky; there are also a new theatre and a popular cultural centre that organises concerts and parties. The University Residence has 25 single rooms and 34 double rooms with bathroom, comfortable TV rooms and meeting rooms. Giudecca is the ideal place if you want to be near the historical centre, in a fashion area among students and artists.

Learn Italian in Venice, the city of light, water and fun
Venice stretches across numerous small islands in the Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. It is a real urban masterpiece, it has canals instead of streets, boats instead of buses, ornate bridges instead of subways. Its unquestioned reputation of city of art and the charm of its atmosphere has made it one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
It is not only the city of museums, churches and wonderful views, with its lively nightlife and many amusements, it is the ideal place for both studying (there are two universities and the Academy of Art) and taking a holiday.
All throughout the year there are many possibilities to enjoy this amazing city: the Carnival in winter, the Regattas in spring, the Biennale of Art in summer and the Film Festival in autumn are only few examples of what made this city one of the most lively cultural centers in Europe.
Venice is not only St. Mark's square or Rialto's bridge, there are wonderful surroundings that are worth seeing: the beach at the Lido, the islands of the lagoon, Padua, Treviso, Verona for an enjoyable day-trip.
At night, enjoy the spritz (traditional aperitif) with some «cichetti» in one of the small Campos with a view over the city and the sea. One of the greatest pleasures in Venice is to go out with friends and pass the evening chatting in a Campo or in the Bàcari, the typical tiny bars or you can either go to a live concert in one of the many cafés.
