The exhibition will present a view of Japan from within adding fashion trends, manga and anime, the much-loved sport baseball, the gambling game pachinko, religious and seasonal festivities or the Japanese love of traveling. Finally the roots of today´s popular culture are traced back to the urban commoner culture of the Edo period (1600-1868). The cultural currents of the Edo period and of the present are not presented totally separate but where possible they are placed side by side. In this way constants and similarities but also changes and ruptures become directly visible.
